Alright y’all…time to get down to the nitty gritty of the age ole war we’ve been battling ALL of our lives. The battle against the siblings…procrastination and resistance. Come on y’all don’t lie to yourselves, you know what I’m talking about! You know that one time when you
put your foot in your mouth said you would do the dishes….and “forgot,” then your husband mentions it and you respond with “I’m fixin’ to.” No? Just me then? Well this is embarrassing now you know what I’m talking about.
Doesn’t matter whether it is work, school, housework, blogging, etc. Procrastination and resistance are close behind, just waiting for us to let our guard down. You’re taking a moment to sit back and relax then you’ll get back to the grind, right? All of a sudden it’s just 5 more minutes..that eventually turn into 30 minutes or more.
So what can we do to keep fighting the good fight against procrastination and resistance? Well, for starters we can set S.M.A.R.T goals. These are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-based goals! Honestly, I’m using this system right now. See…I was
bingeing a new show on Netflix having trouble staying on track and getting my blog done with all the distractions life is throwing my way. To combat these distractions I set a goal for myself to meet. For instance, I allotted two hours for myself to brainstorm, crank out a post or two and work on some graphics for said posts.
The next thing we can do is to STOP giving in to procrastination & resistance’s ugly cousin negative-self talk. What is negative-self talk? That’s the constant commentary we run in our heads and sometimes out loud, about ALL the reasons why we can’t or won’t be able to do something. We are putting ourselves at a disadvantage before we even start! Now that you are aware of what you are doing try and combat it! Start calling out the facts, try to put a positive on the way you word things and if those don’t work, pick up the phone and call your go-to reality check, for me that’s my husband or my sister. They never fail to get me back on track!
Got other ways YOU tackle procrastination, resistance and negative self-talk? I’m always looking for other ways to fight back so comment below!
Having accomplished my goals for today, it’s back to feeding my addiction. Speaking of Netflix..have any shows I should give a try? Drop a comment below!
Y’all comeback now, ya hear?
